There was a time when people used to say, “They don’t build them like they used to “and it was probably correct. But today, it is no longer true: new homes are much better constructed. The building industry has come a long way in the last 10 years. Technology and higher standards have improved the way we build. Local codes have forced builders to build to higher standards. Improvements include:

  1. Energy efficiency through Energy Star and Green Building.
  2. The involvement of Structural Engineer and engineered products has improved overall integrity.
  3. High Tech wiring keeps up with today’s demands for information and comfort.
  4. Stricter enforcement of higher standards by local building officials means increased comfort; safety and efficiency.

We don’t build them like we used to. We build them better.”

Here are a few tips before you start building that new home

  1. Don’t build too much house for the neighborhood. Having the largest and most expensive house on the block might be good for your ego, but it makes the house significantly more difficult to sell in the future
  2. A good rule to follow is to build to the neighbor or build for resale. Sooner or later that two bedroom, 6 bathroom house that was perfect for you, will be a challenge to sell.
  3. Good Execution needs Good Planning. Take the time to plan out the small details. The small details can transform a simple home into a Custom Home.
  4. In all phases of the construction of your new home, watch your construction allowances. Even small over runs add up fast by the time your home is finished.
  5. Last but not least , choose a builder who understands and shares your vision and that you can work with . Make sure he is being accommodating for the right reason , not because he has to.

You have made a good decision to build new home. Choose the right home builder, take the time to plan and you will have a home that will cost you less to own over the years.

Remember, greatness in is the details. It is those small details that will make the difference. Most homes in Macomb Michigan will have those small details. So don’t forget them. Good luck with your search of that new home. I hope this article will help you.
